LIVE: Pres. Duterte SONA 2017
President Duterte is expected to tell the Filipino people about the situation of the country, highlight the accomplishments of his Administration, and lay down his plans for the years ahead.
Round the clock preparations were made to assure safety of the highest official and the estimated 3,000 guests at the Plenary Hall today. As reported, the National Capital Region Police Office is said to send a 6,000-strong police force for the event or 50 percent higher than last year.
Just like last year, former president Benigno Aquino III will be skipping his successor’s SONA.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) is said to once again work with the award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza, who will direct the production of President Duterte’s SONA.
The president is set to arrive at 3:00 p.m. and to be accorded by arrival honors to be led by the AFP Chief-of-Staff, together with the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The speech is expected to start at 4:00 p.m. It is drafted in English, but the President, like last year, might deliver some off-the-cuff remarks. Palace said: “if read straight should take approximately 50 minutes; given there will be pauses for applause and off-the-cuff remarks, the speech may take about an hour and thirty minutes.”
The full text of President Rodrigo’s speech in English and Filipino translation called the “President’s Report to the People” will be available online shortly after the President has spoken or around 6:00 p.m.
